The Mediating Power of Skills and Interest: Exploring the Link Between Demograhics and Career outcomes for St. Peter's College Business Administration Alumni
Published in September 2026 (Vol 1, Issue 1, 2026)
This study investigates the mediating effect of skills and interests on the relationship between demographic characteristics (age, gender, and income) and career outcomes among St. Peter’s College (SPC) Business Administration alumni. Utilizing a mixed-methods design (n=109), the research examined how these demographics influence skill and interest development and how those factors subsequently impact career satisfaction, advancement, and alignment. The findings reveal that skills and interests significantly mediate this relationship. Notably, age, gender, and income positively influence skill and interest levels (p < 0.05), with higher income providing superior access to education and development resources. Furthermore, wealth and gender were found to significantly impact overall career success. These results underscore the necessity of targeted skill and interest cultivation to bridge demographically driven career disparities. Based on these insights, the study recommends implementing targeted training initiatives, providing gender-inclusive career support, and establishing accessible lifelong learning opportunities to foster equitable career development for SPC alumni.
